This is an arrowback settee (circa 1840) with a single plank seat. It had been stored in the client’s barn for several years and needed re-gluing and refinishing.
We were able to tighten the loose legs and stretchers by injecting glue into their joints. A crack in the seat was shimmed and also glued. The old scratched up finish was then removed and all was sanded, stained and sealed with a couple coats of hardwearing varnish. The photo below shows some close ups of before and after refinishing.
There are a lot of parts that make up this antique arrowback bench (settee) and everything matched up nicely when it was all done..
This 19th century arrowback settee was restored for a Norfolk CT client.
