This mahogany front door refinish project was pre-scheduled so the doors could be removed and refinished at our shop. During this time the opening was boarded with plywood.
Photo below shows how badly the sun damaged finish on these exterior doors was peeling and color faded.
Once at our shop, the hardware was removed and the finish on the exterior faces was stripped. Minor repairs were made to some open shrinkage cracks and the surfaces were sanded by hand.
The doors were then colored with a light fast mahogany stain. After all color matching of the panels was completed, the doors were sealed with four coats of exterior spar vanish with UV protectant. Finish was also applied to the edges, including top and bottom.
The brass hardware was polished and re-installed, and the refinished doors were then brought back to the client’s home and re-hung on their hinges.
